A fire ripped through a show in an Oakland, California building known as the Ghost Ship late Friday December 2nd. It is tragic to say that one of the victims is confirmed to be VJ Jonathan Bernbaum, live visual artist for Knife Party. He is also known for his visual work with many well established electronic dance artists. He previously worked for Circuit 5 Visuals, V Squared Labs, and even Pixar Animation Studios.

The incident is still under investigation, however detectives are beginning to point their fingers in the direction of an electrical fire. As the building’s structure prominently features exposed wood, it also housed loads of large scale audio and video equipment. The buildings operator, Derick Ion, is being investigated for ignoring fire and safety laws. In a Facebook post, instead of addressing the issue and offering condolences, he focused on the incident’s effect on his own sense of “self worth.”
